Just like DAIGHILA, GHAUST are not that easily genrefied. You could describe the Jakarta two-piece as slow melodic instrumental rock, but who would be interested in the band after such a description? None of you I guess.
So to give it another shot: GHAUST play heavy, down-tuned, down-tempo instrumental music that others have described as "Sludge", "Doom", or "Atmospheric Sludge/Post-Hardcore". All of these descriptions are a bit off the map to my mind, because GHAUST aren't sluggish and sonic enough for Sludge, or in the positive: they have decent, intricate song structures and tempo changes. Not enough gloom for Doom, but they certainly are atmospheric, and I dare say melancholic. The guitars are semi- rather than fully-fuzzed in most parts, which may hint towards something post- after all, but what's post-hardcore anyway. So back to basics: GHAUST play melancholic instrumental rock with heavy passages and great song structures. And they're good! Very atmospheric, and they seem to like images of forests (more or less abstract) for their covers. And there you go.
